Klaro Cards

Attachments: read every file without leaving the card

Upload files to a card and read them where they are — images, PDFs, emails, web pages, notes and video, no download needed

A card holds its files on the Attachments tab, and Klaro Cards shows them
to you rather than handing you a download. An image opens as an image, a PDF
pages like a PDF, an email reads like an email — all in the same viewer, without
leaving the card.

The Attachments tab

Every file shows its name, its size, when it was added and by whom. Add
files…
at the bottom takes new ones, and you can drop files onto the tab.

What a file offers

Action What it does
Download attachment Saves the file as it was uploaded
Copy link to attachment Puts a direct link on your clipboard — paste it into a comment, a card description or an email
Set as cover Makes the image the card's cover. Images only
Delete attachment Removes it from the card, and asks first

Opening it

Click a file and it opens in the gallery. Its name and its place in the set —
1 / 4 — sit in the header, with Download and Close beside them.

Moving between files

Previous and Next step through the card's attachments without closing
anything, and they stop at the ends rather than wrapping — the left arrow is
greyed out on the first file. The left and right arrow keys do the same, and
Esc closes. On a touch screen, swipe. You can go from a photo to a PDF to a
video and never look at a file picker.

What each kind of file looks like

Kind How it opens
Images Full size in the frame — png, jpg, gif, tiff, svg, webp
PDF documents Paged, with Previous page and Next page
Emails Read as a message, sender and subject included. A .eml or .msg, typically one Klaro Cards saved itself from an incoming mail
HTML pages Rendered in place, not downloaded
Markdown documents Rendered as a document, its frontmatter shown as fields, with zoom from 50% to 300%
Videos Played in the frame
Other files A tile saying there is no preview, and a Download button — the gallery never pretends it can show something it cannot

An HTML attachment, for instance, is read rather than saved:

An email opened this way also offers Open in Gmail, which finds the same
message in your mailbox.

A board decides what clicking a card does, and Open attachment gallery is one
of the choices — in Board settings → Cards behavior.

This is what turns a board into a contact sheet. A board of site photographs
opens on the photographs; a board of signed quotes opens on the PDF.

You can narrow it to one kind of file rather than Any attachment. Set it
to PDF documents and a click opens only the PDFs, stepping between those and
ignoring the screenshots someone also attached.

A card with no matching file still opens. Rather than swallow the click,
the board falls back to opening the card itself. Nothing ever feels broken.

The cover image

A card has at most one cover, and only an image can be one. Set as cover
on a second image moves the cover rather than adding another, so there is never
a question of which one wins.

The cover is what a card shows on a board, in a gallery-mode board and in a
search result.

On your phone

The mobile app reads attachments in the same gallery — images, PDFs, emails,
reports and notes — without sending you to another app, and can save a file
to the phone
when you want it there.

Good to know

  • The content type comes from the file's extension, not from what the server
says: a .pdf pages, a .md renders, anything unrecognised gets the download
    tile.
  • The gallery remembers which file it is showing in the page address, so a
link you copy while reading one reopens on that one.
  • Attachments are part of a card's history. Adding and removing one is
recorded, and Restore card to this point can roll attachments and the cover
    back with the rest.
  • A comment can point at an attachment: type @ in the comment editor and
the card's own files are offered.
  • Deleting an attachment deletes the stored file with it. The card history keeps
the record that it was there.
