Two ways in
Add multiple cards opens the same screen from two places:
- the context menu of a column, a cell, or the board's card menu — the cards you create inherit that column's values;
- Board tools ▸ Import … — the same screen, opened on its spreadsheet tab.
The left side holds what you bring, the right side shows what it would do. Nothing is written until you press the button, and the button always says what it is about to do.
The simplest case: one card per line
In the Paste a list tab, type or paste a plain list:
Call Ateliers Poncelet
Send the Beta SPRL quote
Prepare the Gamma NV visit
Three lines, three cards, each with that line as its title. Everything else comes from Every card also gets, below the editor: the column you started from, the board's filters, the card kind.

Need a subtitle? Fill Split title and subtitle at with the character that separates them, say -, and Acme - first contact becomes a card titled Acme with first contact underneath.
Paste a table and the dimensions fill too
Copy a range out of Excel, Google Sheets or Numbers and paste it in the same box. If the first row names your dimensions, Klaro reads the paste as a table:
Card title;Source;Owner;Entered pipeline
Ateliers Poncelet;Trade show;Sylvie R.;2027-01-12
Beta SPRL;Website;Marc T.;2027-02-15

Importing a file: three steps
Import a spreadsheet takes the file itself, in three steps.
1. Upload
Drop an .xlsx or a .csv, or pick one with Browse files.
No file yet? Start from a template builds an empty one with the right columns: choose the card kind — it decides which columns are suggested — add or remove columns, then Download template as .xlsx or .csv. The file comes with the header row and one example row, each column opened wide enough to read.

2. Adjust
The heart of the screen. On the left, Match your columns lists every column of your file with what it was read as; on the right, the preview shows what each row will do.

3. Create
A plain summary of what the button will do, and nothing happens before you press it.

Column titles: what Klaro understands
The header row is how Klaro knows what to fill. Each column is shown with the dimension it was matched to, and you can change any of them — or set it to Do not import.
A header matches by name or by code
A column title matches the dimension whose label or code it spells, forgiving case, accents, spaces, hyphens and underscores. For a dimension labelled Due date (code due_date), all of these match:
Due date · due date · DUE DATE · Due_Date · due-date · due_date
Familiar names, for four dimensions
Nobody exports a column called Card title. So, besides the dimension's own label and code, these are accepted:
| Dimension | Also accepted |
|---|---|
| Card title | title, card title, name, task, summary, subject, item, story — and titre, nom, tâche, sujet, libellé, résumé, titel, aufgabe, naam, taak, tarea, nombre, asunto |
| Card kind | kind, card kind, type |
| Description | description, card description |
| Card number | card n°, card no, card nr, card number, card id — and n° de carte, numéro de carte, n° de fiche, kaartnummer, kartennummer, n° de tarjeta |
Your own labels always win: if you renamed a dimension to Type, a Type column fills that dimension, not the card kind. A bare Id is deliberately not read as the card number — every export carries one, and few of them mean a Klaro card by it.
What makes a paste a table rather than a list
All of the following must hold, or the paste is read as plain titles:
- at least two columns;
- at least two columns that name a dimension;
- one of them is the card title or the card number;
- at least 80% of the rows have as many cells as the header;
- no header cell longer than 60 characters.
A dropped file is always read as a table — you said it was one by dropping it.
Columns Klaro ignores
- A column that names nothing is left out, and says so — a Jira or Notion export of twenty columns, three of which are your dimensions, works fine.
- A second column naming a dimension an earlier one already took is left out too.
- Dimensions that take no written value are never filled: polls, card links, the archived flag, the manual card order.
Column order does not matter, and you need not bring every dimension.
Changing cards that already exist
Put the card number in a column and those rows stop creating cards: they change the ones they name. It is how you export a board, edit it in a spreadsheet, and bring it back.
- a row with a number changes that card; a row without one creates a card;
- on a change, an empty cell keeps the current value — the file says what to change, not what the card is;
- the defaults under Every card also gets are not applied to a change;
- the numbers must exist: the server takes the whole batch or refuses it.
The preview says it row by row: Update #12, or New card. The tabs above it — All, New, Updates, Skipped — keep the table to the rows you are asking about.
Every card also gets
Under the editor, one field per dimension the cards will carry, each with its name on the left and its value on the right:
- a value to choose from a list — click the field and pick one, with the same coloured dot the cards use;
- a number or a text — written straight into the field;
- a date — click and the calendar opens, the one the rest of the app uses.
The cross empties a field; the bin beside it takes the dimension off the list altogether, for one you added yourself. + Add a dimension brings in one that is not there.
A default fills empty cells only — a value in your file always wins. A field the board requires has no cross, since every card needs it: left empty, with neither a column nor a value here to fill it, it turns red and asks for one. That is the one thing that stops the import, and the message beside the preview names it.
What goes in the cells
| Dimension | Write |
|---|---|
| Text, Description | the text itself |
| Number | 1500, 1 500, 1,5, 1.234,56, 1,234.56 — spaces group thousands, and a comma is a decimal point unless a dot claims the role |
| Date | 2027-01-12, or the order your project reads dates in (12/01/2027 in a French project, 01/12/2027 in a US one), with or without a time |
| Single choice | the value's label or code — High, high, HIGH |
| Multiple choice | several of them, separated by a comma or a semicolon: Alice, Bob |
| Member, Workspace, Card kind | the name of one that already exists |
| Card number | 12, N° 12 or #12 |
A cell holding a dimension's no-value label — To sort, No value — says the card has none, and creates nothing.
Values that don't exist yet
If a cell holds a value a dimension doesn't have — Critical in a Priority that only knows Low, Medium and High — Klaro offers to create it, as long as that dimension accepts new values and you may edit it. The screen says so before you commit: New values will be added to the dimension: Critical (Priority).
Members, workspaces and card kinds are never invented this way; those must exist. A value that cannot be created is reported, and the cell left empty.
Rows that cannot be created
A row with no title, or missing a required dimension nothing fills, is skipped: shown struck through, counted under the Skipped tab, and named at the foot of the screen. The other rows are created as usual — one bad row does not hold up the rest. Fill the value in your file, or give the dimension a default, and the row joins the others.
Separators, quotes and accents
Klaro reads tabs (what a spreadsheet puts on your clipboard), semicolons and commas, whichever cuts your paste most consistently. Pipes are not separators, so a Markdown table stays a list of titles.
A cell may be quoted, which is how a value holding the separator survives:
Title;Owner
"Poncelet, SA";Sylvie R.
Double a quote to write one: "5"" nails".
If the accents come out as é or —, the file was written in UTF-8 and read as something else. Klaro notices and offers Read it as UTF-8 above the editor — one click, and the text is itself again.
Tips
- Read the preview, not the file. The right side shows the cards as they will be; the line under it counts what your data filled and what was skipped.
- Fix the header, not the data. A column left out is usually one word away from the dimension's label — or one click away in the matching list.
- One kind per file. A template is built for one card kind; mixing kinds means mixing the dimensions they carry.
- Large files are fine — the preview shows the first 50 rows, the button creates them all.
- Closing is safe. A click outside the screen asks before throwing your work away.
