Principle behind linked cards
- Linked cards are based on Klaro Cards's dimension system.
- Recall: a dimension is a way to annotate cards with structured information ; they appear on the right block in the card details dialog.
- While a normal "Track your own list" dimension allows you to list the possible values, a Parent/Child dimension let's you decide that possible values of the dimension are cards of a given card kind.
Example
- Let's say you have two card kinds: Company & People.
- When you create a People card, you'd like to choose which is their ("parent") company
- When you open the Company card, you see all people working there as Linked ("child") cards
Create a "Track a parent/child relationship" dimension
- Go to the dimensions tab of the
Settings & Memberssection and add a new dimension under theCard relationshipssection. - In the dialog that opens, name your dimension along the role of the parent card (e.g.
Parent company). Also choose the card kinds that are allowed as parent cards (hereCompany). - Choose the role of the child cards
e.g. People working there...as well as the card kinds allowed as child cards (herePeople).

The parent behaves like any other dimension on child cards
When creating a people card, the company is asked, as if you created a normal dimension :

When editing a people card, the company dimension is found in the block of dimensions at right :

On a parent card, the children appears in the Linked cards section
In our example, the People cards appear under the People working there... section of the linked cards.

The parent dimension behaves like a "normal" dimension
That means, you can now use the Company in filters, as Kanban or Matrix columns, etc.
